Things I've learned

There are a few things people just don't tell you will happen to you when you're pregnant. They might mention it in passing but maybe there's a secret rule that mothers can't tell first time pregnant women the things that your body does. For example:

1. Your bladder. I knew the part where it works in overtime but nobody mentions the part where it doesn't work. These prove for really embarrassing moments.

2. Did you know that another woman overtakes your body while you're pregnant? She's happy one moment and then the next moment it's like the crazy Brittney Spears invades your body and you want to punch out every car window with an umbrella.
3. Coordination is non-existent. Matt watches me every morning hit every wall on my way to the bathroom. Sometimes I feel like this girl.

4. You cry a lot and there is no explanation for it. I cry in commercials, I cried when I wrapped Christmas gifts, I cried when Santa's sleigh flew over the crowd in Elf. I just even might cry writing this post.

5. Your hair falls out. Not just a strand here and there. I'm talking handfuls at a time. This actually gave us a clue something was up before we knew for sure we were pregnant.

6. I heard that you become a little ditzy but losing your mind is another thing. The other day at work I could not for the life of me grasp that 2*3 did not equal 5. After about 5 minutes of going over it in my head and counting on my fingers I realized that 2*3 does not equal 5 but 2+3=5.

So, if you know of anything else to watch for please let me know. That is if you're not in the mom club that can't give out the secrets.

Pink Nightmare

Christmas is this week? I feel like I've been counting down since July and now it's finally here! Matt and I leave this week to go out to my parent's house for Christmas and it will be the first time in over 4 years that all of us will be together at once. To celebrate this occasion Matt and I offered to put together "The Jacobson Amazing Race." Here's a little sneak peak of something they'll have to use during the Amazing Race . Any guesses on what it is? (A little hint is in the title.)
Sandi and Dave came to town this weekend and Sandi helped me sew on my new machine they got me for Christmas for the first time. I'm so in love.
We also got to spend a little time with the Wilsons. We've decided that we're going to move to Dubai now so that we can be closer to them and little Livi. We love her so much. When we asked Livi if it was a boy or girl that we were having she smiled when we said girl. The Chinese test says it's a girl, Livi said it's a girl, motherly instincts say it's a girl but we officially find out on January 8th.

We've also been busy making Christmas gifts and we decided to do Dr. Pepper BBQ sauce again for this year. I would be jealous if you didn't live close to us because this stuff is so good. Merry Christmas ya'll!

Danville Thanksgiving

We spent 5 relaxing days for Thanksgiving this year with Matt's family. Mom and Dad Scott spoiled us rotten and we loved every minute of it. To sum up our trip we came up with a little acrostic poem.

T--Thanksgiving spent with Matt's family.
H--Having wonderful friends and family.
A--Awesome first class seats that Sandi accidentally booked for us. We're never flying coach again.
N--Naps we took (a lot of them).
K--Kidding we got during the Danville Christmas tree lighting ceremony. 4 branches that are lite up on an OAK tree does not make it a Christmas tree.
S--Spanking that the U of U got from BYU.
G--Gifts we opened for our Christmas together since we we'll be with my family for Christmas.
I--Imbosol of a lady who wouldn't shut up behind us or stop answering the questions that the characters asked during New Moon.
V--Vast amount of cheesy Christmas movies we watched.
I--Intense remote control helicopter fights with the brothers. (Matt had to get his off the neighbor's roof.)
N--Nights we stayed up late talking and laughing until it hurt.
G--Guts we grew from all the food and sourdough bread we ate.

Since I forgot my camera on the trip the only pictures we took were family pictures my sister-in-law Jen took. I love the first one because it shows the personalities so well of each of the kids.The landing poses are always so good.When I came across this picture I realized I have a bit of a mullet going on. I need to fix this asap.

Nesting

Thank you all so much for your sweet comments, it makes us feel even more excited about this baby.

So excited in fact that we've already started decorating...well, not exactly for the baby. Call it nesting if you will.With not knowing what we're going to name the baby or knowing the gender for that matter we've had to come up with some nicknames to call this baby. We decided to ask my 4 year old nephew what we should name the baby and he said, "hmmm, Barfa or Barfa Murphey." It's been very fitting for the first trimester but I think we'll keep shopping around for names.

Guess what?

We got to see this little one a couple of weeks ago. Yes, we're not joking around this time. May 25th is the day and it's all we can talk about.

Costume Crimes

To celebrate the Halloween festivities Matt really wanted to carve a pumpkin. Not just any pumpkin, the largest pumpkin in the patch. So we brought it home and he carved this free hand. "Dead men tell no tale."
For Halloween we played with these potato heads. Go here for their hilarious costumes.

Police Beat--October 24: A boy in a gorilla suit was reported attempting to scare girls in Wyview Park. Officers located the monkey man, asked him to go home and he did.

Police Beat--October 30: Several males were running through Brigham Square wearing only capes and underwear. When officers arrived, the caped crusaders were gone.

It always gets a little crazy here around Halloween...

I started listening to Christmas music last week because I was craving it SO bad and I'm not ashamed. How could I not when all of the Christmas decorations are out, Christmas ads are already on TV, and it's what we've been talking about at work? If you've been craving it but are too proud to listen to it yet, give in because it feels oh so good.

Feeling Fall

Isn't this fall weather incredible?! We've loved it so much in fact that we've gone on a couple of hikes up Sundance canyon (highly recommend it if you haven't been) to enjoy the trees.
Made homemade chili and granola and decorated the house in fall decor.And took a short little trip to Colorado (more on that later!)

Our Garden

A lot of you have been blogging about your garden and all the fruits and vegetables you've gotten. We wanted to show you our garden and all that we got! We planted it back in May and we babied this thing. Everyday we were out there watering the plants when they needed it, noting each new growth, and making sure no weeds got in the way of our baby. We planted 2 tomato plants, 2 sweet peas, and 7 green pepper plants. After a week this happened to our first plant:We waited anxiously for our sweet peas but they died after about 2 weeks.

The hopes of the bell peppers were next. Matt went out one day and saw a little bell pepper growing and out of his excitement touched it and it fell off. We also noticed that a cat ate our 7th bell pepper plant.Finally after FOUR months we got our first tomato! It's about half the size of my finger. Now I get to harvest it! Salsa, canning, stew, tomato sauce, the possibilities are endless!Here's hopes for next year that we'll have more than just one tiny tomato!

Last night my sister and her husband got a knock on their bedroom door with a voice saying it was Jesus and he had a note for her. Turns out it was just their 3 year old wanting to give her his mattress tag. You never know though.

back east

2009 definitely has been the year of traveling. Last week we had the chance to go see my parent's new house in Indiana and have a mini-reunion with all the siblings (minus 1). One of the best parts of the trip was my sister and her husband putting together "Jacobson Jeopardy." Matt was beating me the whole game until he wagered everything on Final Jeopardy and lost all of his points. How is it that he's only been in the family for 2 years and he managed to beat me at my own family's game?
We spent a lot of time playing with all of the nieces and nephews, taking naps, playing games, and going fishing and canoeing on a reservoir that backs up to my parent's house.After a few days at my parent's house we left to go see the Wheelers in NYC. We had so much fun with them and appreciate them taking the time off to show us around. A couple of highlights from our trip include:

• Candice and Jordan's apartment in Harlem. The store across the street even specializes in selling Karate DVDs, just in case you would ever want one.
• Seeing the Statue of Liberty and Ellis Island.
• Walking all around NY and seeing Times Square, Rockefeller Center, the Brooklyn Bridge, Financial Street, and the World Trade Center's memorial.
  
• Visiting cool buildings like the Flat Iron building.
• Constantly eating so we could fit in all of the good eats in NY. One of our favorites was Serendipity but Shake Shack took the prize for me.
• On Saturday we ventured out to New Jersey to party with the newlyweds BJ and Julia. And believe you me the dancing at the reception was better than any dancing you could have found in the clubs.
• We loved visiting the Met and seeing the exhibits there.

• One of our favorite parts of the trip and the city was Central Park. We loved it there and we came at just the right time. On the weekends they hold a roller skating party. I think the video speaks for itself.

I'm in need of some new inspiration. I love looking at unique blogs and finding a whole new world of design, fashion, and creativity. I love looking at places like here, here, and here but I am looking to expand the horizon. Where do you find really unique ideas? Where do you find your creativity and inspiration? goodbyes

I haven't blogged in a little while because there hasn't been too much going on other than a few random things. I should have blogged about saying goodbye to some of our best friends, the Millers and Wilsons, but I'm still bitter about them leaving. On Saturday we helped the Millers move and then saw The Time Traveler's Wife. The movie is sad from start to finish and then right after we watched them drive away in their moving van. Bad idea.We also saw Julie & Julia this weekend. Amy Adams and Meryl Streep were so good in the movie and I couldn't picture anyone else playing the part. We liked it but we had really high expectations, and I thought it was going to be better than it was.Matt finished his summer semester last week and now he only has TWO more semesters until he's done! I think they should give him a hard hat when he's done since he's graduating in Construction Management. They give doctors and dentists white coats when they graduate...just a thought. Next week we are jetting off to vacation destination, Muncie, IN where my parents now live. We'll spend a few days with them and then go see the Wheelers in NYC who also abandoned us last year. Can you tell we're still bitter towards those who have left us? :)

This past weekend Matt and I had a lot of family come to town. One of my sisters came in to town for a family reunion on her in-law side and stayed with us for a few days before the reunion. All her two boys wanted to do was to wrestle with Uncle Matt, watch Home Alone, and go to a pool. So that's just what we did. Talmage's new thing is to make funny faces whenever a camera is brought out. I love it.
On Sunday we went to see my Grandma at her house and play with the boys for a bit. When we got there Talmage (age 4) ran up to my Grandma and gave her a big hug but then backed away with a confused look on his face and asked, "Um, hey, didn't you die like 4 years ago?" In the meantime Hunter (age 3) strokes her hand and looks up at her and asks, "You're dead?" Luckily, she didn't hear but that has become one of our new favorite phrases!

Thanks Jill and the boys for coming to see us! We can't wait to see you soon!

Family Ancestors

Today over lunch Matt and I were discussing our ancestors because today is Pioneer day here in Utah. I was asking Matt who were some interesting people that he was related to and this is what we came up with:

• Matt's grandma is related to the royal family of Spain. I think we should have a family reunion at their house.
• One of Matt's ancestors when he was a young boy, watched his dad get killed because he was Mormon. After he escaped being killed he got on a boat, sailed to the US, and joined up with the Saints here.
  
• My great, great, great, etc grandmother is Pocahontas. You can now call me Princess Pocamegus.
  
• I am related to a lady named Fanny Longbottom. Yes, you heard me right. Maybe that means that I am now related to Neville Longbottom?
• My Grandpa's grandfather lost his leg in a gun fight that he had with Jesse James when Jesse robbed the Springville, Utah bank.

I love learning about what things are ancestors went through, and I bet I'm missing out on thousands of really cool stories. What interesting or famous people are you related to?

Red, White, and Birthday

For the 4th of July and my birthday we had my parents, brother and his family, and some of my uncles and aunt come to town! We started the weekend off with tubing down the Provo river. If you haven't done that yet go, because it is SO much fun! Matt and I also babysat our nieces and played beauty salon complete with pedicures.

On Saturday we went to the Provo parade. What it is about parades that make you so proud to be an American?Later that night while we were waiting for the fireworks to start our cousins and us played a game called Double Bubble Trouble. You have to fit as many bubble gum pieces in your mouth in 10 min. Maddie won by far with 50 pieces. In case you're wondering, this is what 50 pieces of chewed bubble gum looks like. Gross Maddie.

After the fireworks we ushered in my birthday. Later that week we did a little celebrating with some family and friends. The traditional Jacobson b-day hat that is mandatory to wear on your birthday. You're jealous you don't have one, aren't you?

Game Day

Shall we play a little game? The past 5 weeks have been very eventful for Matt and myself. We were talking yesterday about our adventures and thought we would play one of my favorite games, 3 truths and a lie. So, without further ado, guess which one is the lie:

1. On a whim I decided to go skydiving with people that I barely knew my first week out at BYU.

2. I mooned the Bishopric.

3. I survived an outbreak of e coli.

4. I'm pregnant.

You really want to know which one the lie is, don't you...













#1 --TRUE. I barely knew these girls that were in my ward and they invited me to go skydiving with them. One of the most exhilarating, fun, and adventurous activities of my life. I recommend it to anyone!



#2--TRUE. I was only 3, but it still counts! I hated underwear and my mom didn't know that I had taken mine off in the car ride over to church. I was bending over the bench before my mom realized what I was up to.




#3--TRUE. This one came true last week. I got really sick, and after a bunch of tests they said that I had a bacterial infection in my digestive system. I had eaten some Nestle cookie dough a couple of days before I got sick (I didn't know that it had been recalled at this point). And that my friends is how you get e coli.




#4--FALSE. You thought this was a true one, didn't you?

riddle me this

I don't want to offend anyone if you have this, but seriously, what is up with EVERY car in Utah having this on their car?A couple of weeks ago at church I saw one of those 18-seater vans with all the kids listed, the parents, grandparents, and family pets with "Blessed" listed at the top. That's just wrong, right? By the way, who names their kid Boogers?

MIA

These past 2 weeks Matt and I have been no fun due in part to the little beauty pictured below. The first two weeks Matt was on doctor's orders to be on bed rest so that the swelling could go down. After 5 doctor's visits, 2 x-rays, and 1 MRI they've decided that he fractured his talar joint. He can't move it or walk on it for 6-8 weeks, and then he'll be in a walking book for a few weeks after that! Here we come summer! Last week I got the flu and then graciously gave it to Matt. This provided me with hours of opportunity to watch re-runs of Tori & Dean (don't judge, you'll get addicted too if you watch it), Jon & Kate + 8, and SYTYCD. We were going a little stir-crazy by the end of the week.

This weekend was Caitlin's baby shower and it was so good to catch up with everyone! Can't wait for the next get-together.Love this little lady...I will now leave you with Matt's latest dream. He always has super strange dreams but this one was up there with one of the weirdest. He dreamed that I was in labor and gave birth to a boy. However when the boy came out he looked like he was 2, had his hair perfectly combed to one side of his head and was very proper. When he looked around the room and saw Matt he said, "Daddy, what is a belly button?" Matt was shocked and asked him how did he learn how to talk? He said that he picked it up from us while he was in the womb. Um, this can't happen right? This just made me even more nervous about kids.

Nurse Betty

On Saturday Matt got up bright and early to go buy some new basketball shoes for a a church basketball game he had that day (an omen of things to come that day). I went and watched him and then went and worked out before we met up with his parents who were in town this weekend. About a half hour later I got a call from Matt saying he sprained his ankle and he wanted me to pick him up. I was thinking oh come on, sprains aren't that bad, walk home!

Yesterday we went to the doctor and he said that Matt tore some tendons and we'll have to wait and see if he needs surgery or not. I've learned two things from this experience. First, I'm not ready for kids. I never realized how much somebody relies on you when they can't do things for themselves. I'm tired and he's a grown man! Second, I need to believe Matt when he tells me he really hurt something and not call him a cry baby. Sorry Matt.

wrap up

For days 4, 5, and 6 we visited these lovely places:

Monmontre was beautiful temple that overlooked the city. Not much to do here but had a great view.
We got lost in some neighborhoods and I found the place that we're going to buy when we move here someday.
Before we went to the top of the Eiffel Tower we decided to eat first. We were walking through some neighborhoods and found a quiet Italian cafe that had a perfect view.

When I took French in High School my French teacher told us about the catacombs of Paris. We decided to go find it one day and I regretted that decision. Matt loved it because he felt like Indiana Jones and I hated it because I was hundreds of feet under ground with millions of skeletons surrounding me.
We went to Musee d'Orsay one day and I got to see one of my favorite paintings. Doesn't it just draw you in?On our last day in Paris we went out to the Palace of Versailles and all around the gardens. Stopping in The Hall of Mirrors with our audio guide.
The leaves had just come out that week and the flowers were just budding. Just a glimpse of the hundreds of acres of gardens and forests.
Matt and I really had so much fun, but we also learned a lot. We compiled a list of the top 10 things that we learned:

1. I wish I would have listened in French better instead of flirting with the boys.
2. I wish I would have stayed awake when I took my Art History class in college. However, it was at 8:00 in the morning, in a dark room with warm cushy seats. Could you blame me?
3. People in Europe don't wear deodorant and have no problem putting their armpit in your face when you're riding the metro.
4. Nutella gelato is incredible and we are in love with it.
5. Always carry coins with you so that you don't get stuck in the metro because you can't buy a train ticket, and have to hop the rails with your luggage.
6. If you don't want to buy something from a street vendor don't look, point, or talk about their merchandise or give any attention to them whatsoever.
7. If any person comes up to you with a sign asking you if you speak English don't lead on that you do.
8. Even if you wear comfortable shoes your feet will still kill when you've walked for 8 hours a day.
9. You will not see every bit of the Lourve, no matter how hard you try.
10. We love Paris and will be going back. Anyone want to join us?
